Sorry, makes perfect sense to post the hlp.log 'with hardware on', silly me...BTW I have to hit the Windows key and 'close' the game from the taskbar when it gets stuck on the loading screen.

I can already see the entry: Setting up Environmental Audio...Failed.
may have something to do with the game not loading. As for the sound card driver, the one I have is the latest one that works with my 'value' (i.e cheap) version of the Audigy2. I tried to use a newer driver and it stopped XP Pro from booting while the sound card was installed (had to do a repair install of XP).

I've been playing the game without the EAX extension, hance the reason for the map on the last line of the log file.
