That's not the same thing. If I pour my soul into a product that I want to make money on. You mean, it SHOULD be ok for everyone to get a copy of it for free, to enjoy the product thoroughly and then spread it, without me getting a single penny for it?

It doesn't matter what I think. We are examining the legality. Do you think that people who do not actually commit murder, in the sense that they take away someone else's life, should be arrested for violent thoughts? It is the exact same thing in principle. It doesn't matter how much work you put into it; after all, the thing we put the most work into is our lives; the only thing that matters is that somebody was provably bereaved of money that is rightfully theirs. Does that occur? No, therefore not theft.

EDIT: I fully realize the incompatibility of the two examples, by the way. But think about what piracy actually is and you will see that, in effect, you are arguing that people who murder a copy of someone else are really murdering that person.
