It doesn't matter what I think. We are examining the legality. Do you think that people who do not actually commit murder, in the sense that they take away someone else's life, should be arrested for violent thoughts? It is the exact same thing in principle. It doesn't matter how much work you put into it; after all, the thing we put the most work into is our lives; the only thing that matters is that somebody was provably bereaved of money that is rightfully theirs. Does that occur? No, therefore not theft.

EDIT: I fully realize the incompatibility of the two examples, by the way. But think about what piracy actually is and you will see that, in effect, you are arguing that people who murder a copy of someone else are really murdering that person.

Well if apparently its not illegal on the US (mixed up whit other countries who do in fact label piracy as a crime such as Brazil) than it should. If I ever worked my ass off on a game and wanted to gain profit out of it. It should be within my rights not to have my work being distributed to others whiteout my personal authorization. Simple as that.

But it's still not the same thing. Just like I don't have the rights to my customers money, they don't have the right to use my product without my permission. And that's where EULA, Terms or use comes in.

Thats a really bad example Bridge. Though I understand what you meant. You could say that piracy is technically its not theft. But in reality you can't "murder" someone's copy either. The copy factor is only easily done on the virtual world. The effects caused by pirating a game are worse than stealing it. because if you steal you'll be the only one carrying that illegal copy. If you pirate it however. The copy of the game shall inevitably multiply to millions causing the exact same damage for a company as if an army went to the game store and took every copy of the game again and again throwout years!
