I can't recall! If you turn it on it should be most noticeable if you throw things around while in a ventilation system. It should be very different compared to when having it off.

Tested, and i really can't say.
There's no reason that EFX won't work: alsoft allow some effects (echo, reverb and EAX reverb says alsoft-conf).
Maybe i didn't have the ear to hear the difference .
