screen tear

i seem to be getting screen tear with amnesia and penumbra it stops with vsync tho what causes this and how could i play it without enabling vsync would i need a new monitor

Your monitor refresh rate is most likely 60Hz so in case you get more frames than 60, you get tearing.

If you enable VSync, the frames won't go over 60 and the tearing won't occur during gameplay.
