A question for the developpers

Good afternoon all,

I have a question for the developpers about Penumbra : what was your first inspiration to create the game ?
I say that cause I recently watched the film The Hills Have Eyes 2 and I found it looked like Penumbra Overture : mines corridors and wood ladders to go to an upper or lower level...
What about ?

Regards, Gizmo.

RE: A question for the developpers

I watched the movie "The Descent" and it have to following in common with Penumbra:

1. A dark mining complex
2. Flashlights (ok, that's normal, but...)
3. Green glowsticks! and...
4. Red flares!
5. Monsters look like the infected.
6. The only weapon in the film is a hammer.

7. The game after Penumbra even called similar to "The Descent"

RE: A question for the developpers

Hi,

I'm not there to criticize anything : I'll never say that Penumbra's developpers are plagiarists : I respect them a lot for their work.
I just asked the question cause artists are often inspired by something or someone when they create.
For example Fred Astaire was a source of inspiration for Michael Jackson.

And it would be so nice to know what inspired the Penumbras ?

Regards, Gizmo.

The engine is even named after H.P.Lovecraft!

I got digital copies of all his books for free(or close to it) a while ago...I should really start reading them.

ok, both the descent and penumbra are great, but i really don't think they have too much in common Tongue i think those are mainly just coincidences...

haha anyways, yes i think one of the main inspirations for penumbra was the thing. i mean they use a lot of the same horror techniques and the environment is very similar. i mean just look at the kennel in black plague, they practically took that right out of that scene from the thing!

I've seen that movie too.
Green infected in "Black Plague" and the monsters in "The Descent" --> big similarity Big Grin
