RE: What do you think is the #1 monster in the Frictional Games Penumbra & Amnesia?

Despite myself, I picked the dog from Penumbra: Overture. Even though I watched a series on it beforehand, it still terrified me. What really caused this morbid fear was an encounter I had on my second playthrough.

I was surprised, after playing Amnesia the dark decent, that it only had knee high (or a little higher) water. Penumbra Black Plague and Requiem had water you were forced to swim in.

What if the Kaernk is only able to walk on the surface of the water? Meaning you can dive away to escape it... but as soon as you surface... it gets you!

My impression was that it's like a shark, in that it senses vibrations in the water to 'see' its surroundings. Now sharks have other senses too, but the Kaernk only seems to respond to vibrations.

Well yes, that would make sense. Vibrations would be sound waves. The Kaernk does seem to react sometimes if you're jumping from one crate to the next...

Still might've been cool to see something similar in a game (i.e. a monster that can't attack you when you'rebeneath the surface). Could potientially be frustrating/annoying too.

I'm waiting for a flying monster to be in a game. Now escaping it by being underwater is a great idea

A flying monster would be terrifying if done well!

(07-12-2012, 07:18 PM)spukrian Wrote: A flying monster would be terrifying if done well! Exactly my thoughts! Now the question is what kind of flying monster? I've heard of, at least, two flying monsters in the Lovecraft world. The Mi-Go, servants of Shub-Niggurath (images of the Mi-Go from Fantasy Flight Game's 'Call of Cthulhu' to give an idea on looks here http://jarling-art.deviantart.com/art/Mi...m-38344323, http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/ffg_co...-scout.png, http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/ffg_co...server.png)

Now none of those images are mine, but they do show off what the Mi-Go looks like. They're the 'scientists' in Niggurath's group. Would these guys, or something like them, do?

As I've heard of them from "At the Mountains of Madness", they can't swim, but drove the Elder Things from the land back into the see.
