Paradox Interactive seize publishing rights for Penumbra sequel
Penumbra: Black Plague to be published worldwide next year
New York, USA (September 13, 2007) - Paradox Interactive announced today that the company has secured the publishing rights to Penumbra: Black Plague. The highly anticipated final chapter in the Penumbra story will thrust players into a creepy environment of horror, as they are challenged in this unique action adventure experience.
"Penumbra: Overture has been referred to as the scariest adventure game to appear in years, and with Penumbra: Black Plague, the developers have managed to push the boundaries of horror even further, said Fredrik Wester, Executive Vice President of Paradox Interactive". "Their unique and innovative approach to gaming adventures made Penumbra a fan and media favorite and we are convinced that Penumbra: Black Plague will have an even bigger impact on the gaming community".
"Penumbra: Black Plague is horrific, life-like, interactive and unique and we are thrilled to be working with Paradox Interactive to introduce this game to a worldwide audience, said Jens Nilsson, Co-Founder Frictional Games". "We've worked with Paradox in the past and their support for our vision and ideas has made it possible for us to keep on developing games that we believe in."
Penumbra: Black Plague is scheduled for release during Q1, 2008.

Great dudes! This is really awesome picture!
Actually, this looks like that he's really missing an arm...
But who's gonna say that he's (I asume that it's 'he') the same than the silhouette in the end of Overture?
If I take a look at the bigger picture, it's much more easier to see (because the quality is much more higher!) that he looks very thin, and he stands like a Zombie...

Yes, though previously a trilogy, Paradox has confirmed this will be the second and final Penumbra release.

One can only guess as to the economics or scheduling issues encountered with the episodic releases...

Somebody from Frictional Games would need to clarify.
Until then, we can only speculate:
1. Wishing to end the Penumbra series?
2. Lack of story/content to support three episodes?
3. Funding/time/contract issue(s?)
4. Wishing to work on a new game world/property?
5. Contract with a new publisher wanting a new, unique IP?
6. Wishing, creatively, to go anouther route? Finishing up Prenumbra before releasing the next title?
Blah blah blah...there could be any number of explanations, but again, Frictional Games really needs to comment on or explain the situation.
