Solved: 8 Years, 8 Months, 3 Weeks ago Black Plague Crashes After Intro Movie

Awhile back, I purchased all three Penumbra games on Steam and recently started playing them. Today, I completed Overture and attempted to start Black Plague on the same day. I had absolutely zero issues with Overture.

When I attempt to start a new game, the entire intro movie plays until I hear what sounds like a door closing at the very end. This is where my game crashes.

After reading this thread with plutomaniac (http://www.frictionalgames.com/forum/thread-11213.html), here is some more information:

1) I am running a desktop version of Windows 7 64-bit with a GeForce 460 GTX video card. I also have the latest drivers for my card, which are 296.10, and am trying to run the game on 1680x1050 resolution.

2) I'm running the game on Steam, and so it should be updated to the latest version, though I don't know how to check to make sure that this is the case. I attempted to "verify integrity of game cache." When I did, it said that 1 file needed to be reacquired. I'm still having this issue.

3) Specifically, when the game crashes I get a BlackBox error message stating that "penumbra.exe caused an EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION in module penumbra.exe at 0023:004D4EE4"

I found a fix.

I did this just now and it works - my game runs fine now.
