Readme.txt, story description, diaries and notes left behind, screen messages, suspenseful exposition, and overall gameplay? Were you joking?
If you do a magical amnesia potion once, it's original. FG did that, and it was original. It was a choice.
If you do it every time, because you don't know any other way, then it's a cop out, and a pretty poor plot device.
