Interesting post about Amnesia!
Amnesia - The Dark Descent
A guest post by Dark Moon
I do not really know why I write this text. The origin lies in a small talk with Charlie about computer games that I run here in the blog and in consequence of which I have declared myself ready to play Amnesia - The Dark Descent to report. Now I want to redeem that pledge.
Actually fits the theme did not come here, because what could be further apart than the political events on the one hand and the fictional world of computer games on the other side? And yet I see parallels here, I must explain something.
Once the game itself: It is in a so-called Amnesia Adventure of the horror genre. Unlike many other games it is based not on a struggle to be discharged - quite the contrary: The player has no weapons and can the threats it encountered in the course of the game, only to dodge. Fleeing and hiding are the only possibilities that remain to him. In this respect it is - in spite of the omnipresent horror, which is implemented really fantastic - a pacifist game that stands out by its own unique atmosphere and the mystery to be solved. It also goes without saying that a threat that can not be fought as a player, the more dangerous acts. The visual and acoustic transformation in this game does the rest - I had never been so "taken possession" of a game. It would have been the home to collapse on me, so I would have ever noticed what happens outside the game.
To act I will not write much because I would not spoil yes. Just this: The "Descent into Darkness", by the lives of the players at Amnesia is very real for me a mirror of society and social destruction that currently falls on Europe and the world. There are so many to admire the details that are truly terrifying - because the story is revealed in the course of the game is a deeply fascist. Basically you can say that we witnessed with the collapse of amnesia as a civilized society adopted into a cynical, absolute nightmare scenario.
I am afraid it is no coincidence that such a game is created just now and it just plays in Germany (the developers sitting in Scandinavia).
I would heartily endorse - it can be downloaded for little money (15 €) to have. Those who prefer to play while watching others can can choose between several different youtube for "Let's Play" versions and give them an impression. But I guarantee that no spectator can replace yourself playing.
If this blog ever again published texts and drawings that refer to the imminent demise of the civilized, European social relation, then this game will also find a contemporary equivalent mention. It illustrates at least as good as Kästner, Tucholsky Lierke or the decline - achieved but I think a lot more people.

I guess some people just want to see pretentious allegories in everything… Also just a minor nitpick but there is no proof the game actually takes place in what is now Germany. Assuming Brandenburg != Brennenburg it could take place in the Netherlands, Poland or Little Russia as well.

Not like it really matters because his point still kind of stands but it's inaccurate.

Well of course it's in Prussia. Where in Prussia was the question, which has been answered. Since the Kingdom of Prussia spanned quite a large area of Europe, a minor part of it located in what is now Germany, it's incorrect to say the game is set in Germany. Not only is that anachronistic it's also obviously wrong.

I chuckled at Amnesia being referred to as 'a pacifist game'.

Google translator is not your friend, it doesn't know what grammar is. And as Damascus Rose said, I'm pretty sure Brennnburg Castle is located in east Prussia
Socialism (noun): A great way to run out of other people's money.

one of daniel's diary entries mentions that it's "in the prussian woods, near the baltic sea", but i think that's all the information we get in-game.
but yeah, sorry OP, couldn't understand it. a... pacifist game?
