Alchemilla

I found a new "terrible" horror game called Alchemilla.
Creepy as hell, what do you think?

That actually looked pretty cool for a while. The maggot-infested meat pools were fantastic and the decrepit hospital vibe was great.

Then it turned out to be just another shitty action horror monster shooter like Cry of Fear.

It's actually a HL2 mod, not an entirely new game. Apparently the creator basically wanted to re-create the atmosphere and overall feel of Silent Hill so he made this (I'm getting this all from Moddb). Anyways, it looks like it could be pretty good.

The problem it faces is replicating the subtlety of Silent Hill. In the video the player is just walking along and SUDDENLY, BARFGUY APPEARS. That doesn't happen in a game like Silent Hill 2. You hear the static of the radio and the pitter-patter of the feet or whatevers before you ever see the enemy. This is just, "Here is a thing stumbling slowly toward you. Here are what appear to be a shotgun and a handgun. Survival horror!"

It's just half life basicly, it follows the same formula.

RE: Alchemilla

The action events in form of monster attacks and combat are a general problem in all games.
There are so many good looking games, but always when the first monster came, it will look just like a standard hack fighting garbage.
That's a shame.
Some games could be so good if there would be no action fights, some animations are too fast and it will ruin all the atmospheric immersion to the environments.
This is why Amnesia is so great. A monster is not a typical computer enemy, it's really a part of panic.
Most games looks so beautyful, but when you have to fight, it will be ugly.
That's a general problem. Developers actually need to learn.
