graphics problems not solved by dedicated thread

If nothing of the above answers your questions and you need to open a new topic then you must answer in these questions when you first post it:

1. What operating system do you have? Also 32-bit or 64-bit?
Windows 7 32-bit
2. Is it a laptop or a desktop? If a laptop, what model?
It's a portable computer, a Dell XPS M2010 with ATI Radeon X1800

I downloaded the demo from steam. Windows tells me my graphics drivers are up to date. I tried installing the legacy-driver software here (http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/wi...ng=English) -- both bundle and individual -- and they crashed before they were of any use.

I've got an experienced gamer friend who pointed me here, where I read and followed the advice on the general graphics problems thread -- I'm not an experienced gamer, I just want to play Amnesia and I downloaded Steam today to do that and only that. I'm at the end of my rope. The hpl.log file looks pretty bad to my eyes.

The mobile version of X1800 is not capable of running the game I think.
