Just saw machinima put out another of their little contests: Slender vs Amnesia TDD.
I just don't get how the two can be comparable?
In Sleneder all you do is wander around in a forest looking for notes for no reason, all while waiting for one major jumpscare. Obviously people find that game scary, I don't since it didn't scare me at all; the Slender man was painfully predictable and it was too apparent that the only purpose for the player is to complete the game as quickly as they can so they don't get caught.
Amnesia on the other hand was really scary. Exploring Brennenburg was one of the most exciting things I've done in a game and the game allways knew how to get to you. The story allways made you want to know more, it pushed you to further investigate the world you'd found yourself in. It changed in atmosphere and design often so you never got familiar with anything.
I'm not saying that Slender is a bad game, just because I don't like it dosen't make it bad. But I don't understand how people reason when they say that the little minigame that is completed in less than 15 minutes can be a better experience than the much longer and richer Amnesia The Dark Descent?
Why would you even compare them? Slender is just a fun quick little horror game that you can download to play and be immediately scared, Amnesia is a full-on game with large amounts of psychological horror but it takes a lot longer to get into.
