Advantages and Disadvantages of a Full Conversion?

Hey guys, as you know I'm new here, from the information I've gathered Full Conversions are mods that can support more content from the modder. I'm interested in using a Full Conversion because I'm working on a custom story that I want to be in present day, therefor having it take place in a 1800's mansion would be unrealistic.

I was wondering if anyone could give me some insight on the advantages and disadvantages of Full Conversion before I make my decision?

Thanks

RE: Advantages and Disadvantages of a Full Conversion?

Pros:
- Allows tons of new custom files
- Custom settings
- Custom everything. Everything.
- New lantern

Cons:
- Many new models don't look that good compared to the original game
- Takes a little bit longer to set up
- Can be confusing to set up if you're not familiar with the various config/settings files
- From the time you publish it until the end of time itself, you will constantly have to explain how to properly install it to an unending line of idiots who aren't capable of reading and following basic instructions. There are no exceptions to this.

I hope that accurately answered your question.

I rate it 3 memes.

Thank you Andy!

Edit: Is it possible to add new models and enemies without using a full conversion?

Of course, you just have to create your own redist folder and put all of the custom stuff with it. When the player downloads your mod then can add it to their own.

I rate it 3 memes.

Some of the things you may change:
1. Custom Lantern
2. Custom Background menu
3. Possibility to change fonts
4. Possibility to change how your notes, inventory, menues etc. look
5. Possiblity to disable monster and item glow
6. Possibility to change night vision
7. General player settings

As you may notice a full conversion mod adds very little to the experience of gameplay. Think of it more as polish for a finished mod.

If I said it once, I've said it a thousand times. You DO NOT NEED a full conversion to add new models, enemies, wall pieces, textures, music, sounds, billboards, etc etc etc Making a full conversion is basically for new lanterns and changing game settings such as the user interface, font, menu background, and player characteristics such as size and ambient lighting in darkness, and more of course.

Again, you DO NOT need to make a full conversion to add custom assets. Simply keep them in your custom_story/MYCUSTOMSTORY folder and the game will read them just fine.
