Nothing, I was just curious who prefers 1st or 3rd. I also said in the first post, give me an example on which game you think it's better.
I was more hinting towards the fact that if everybody chooses "depends" the question is pointless.
Anyway, I think 3rd person works admirably well in the Hitman, Splinter Cell and MGS series. They wouldn't be the same if they were in 3rd person, and would no doubt be inferior because they utilize the pros of 3rd person to their fullest potential. Other games, such as Penumbra/Amnesia, Thief and Mirror's Edge for example use the first-person perspective to great effect, and also wouldn't be the same if they were in 3rd person (case in point: Thief 3 had a 3rd person mode which was vastly inferior to the 1st person one). So it really depends. If you base your design around one or the other, the end result is going to be different. It's impossible to design a game that accommodates for both perspectives and utilizes all of their respective advantages.
And that's essentially the long and short of it.
