But I feel with my luck, he'd die even if I gave him all the proper habitat systems and food preferences...
They are actually pretty self-reliant. You just give them cockroaches (they eat some type of variant of a cockroach I believe - not sure) and then leave them alone. Honestly, it's recommended that you don't even hold them because they can get frightened and try to run straight off your hand - which can be fatal. Hell, their boxes are only allowed to be so high because they have a tendency to fall and anything over like 3 inches can cause them to be seriously injured.
And then there is the danger of them actually being killed by the prey you give them if they are in the process of shedding their exoskeleton (I forget what the process is called. Basically they shed their exoskeleton and grow a new one that is big enough for their bodies to fit in). The best thing about tarantulas is that they basically don't spin webs so you have everything that is great about spiders without the creepiness. They are quite fascinating animals. I would totally want one too.
My cousin has a brachypelma boehmei and she's a preety nice girl because unlike some other spiders he had in the past, she doesn't try to shoot her hair at him, its a common self defence mechanism that the hairy spiders have
edit: Btw bridge, the blue spider is called Haplopelma lividum or "cobalt spider". look at this cute thing
Sorry but we cannot change your avatar as the new avatar you specified is too big. The maximum dimensions are 80x80 (width x height)

Yeah I've heard that stuff is really irritating (literally).

This is my only reservation about getting a tarantula. I'm worried I'd accidentally piss it off and it'd bite and shoot it's hairs and lay it's eggs in my ear.

That's pretty cute too, but that's more of a childhood happiness sort of cute.
In this video, from 7:40 - 8:15, for some reason every time I hear the passage I just get feel with a lot of emotional affection and I want to go and curl up with the nearest fluffy blanket and rub my cheeks all over it
