You shouldnt be starting a custom story to release then. Practice with the tools for a few months, get used to them and then start work, I'd say. It will benefit your skills greatly, and will have you produce a better quality mod than you can currently create. Remember, your portfolio or modding career is only as good as your worst piece of work.
Simply not true. You shouldn't add worthless mods to your portfolio just to fill it up or show that you are prolific sure, but your entire career isn't going to be permanently nullified just because you "release" a few low-quality mods.
I did not say it would be nullified, and yes, people do not care so much about those "starter" mods you made a few years ago, or so on, but you -will- be judged off of it for at least a few years, because people are psychologically pre-determined to focus on the worst. Hence why you would remember that one dick head who did not indicate when turning than the 30 who did. After a few years, or a year or so people will not judge you as much, but within that time frame they would.

I suppose I agree, but I think you are talking more about people who create insipid and useless stuff than people who simply aren't competent or experienced enough yet to create a quality mod. In the latter case, I don't think there is anything wrong with releasing your early work. Perhaps not the absolute first CS you create, but the criticism will be very valuable if you wish to get better. After all, the only way to get criticized is to open up to people. If you insist on shedding until you finally finish your magnum opus after years of training and designing, chances are you are going to be very disillusioned about your own work, which is never good.

EDIT: Anyway, I know that's not what you said, so I'm not challenging anything you said in particular. Just rambling.

In any case, actually, because getting criticism from start to end can make you dependent on others for growth and learning, instead of self teaching. Waaaait a second.. Aren't you going a bit fast? You haven't even released anything and you're setting up a website already? I'd release a custom story before even thinking about a website if I were you..

Some conversion work might be necessary but it is essentially the same engine. Who knows at this point.
