demo causes x crash

Ubuntu Feisty 7.04 x86_64, ATI Radeon x800

I have the ATI driver, fglrx, and the 32 bit compatibility libs. The demo install completes with no errors, however upon starting the game, I get only a black screen/enlarged cursor as though its switching modes, but then x restarts. Log is attached.

Well, it seems the fglrx driver installed with apt-get is not in fact the latest, or at least was not working properly for me. Using the ATI provided driver here:

and the installation instructions (a pain), here:

solved this problem.
