Solved: 8 Years, 1 Month, 3 Weeks ago Patch 1.0.1 "can not replace existing file"

Having picked up the 'Substance' in the chemical Lab, the game crashes wit an EXCEPTION_EXCESS_VIOLATION in unknown module.

I downloaded Patch 1.0.1. but the installer can not complete the installation as it "Can not replace existing file: Delete File Failed: Code 5 Access is denied." (see attached screen shot)

(I can not save at the Save point in the entrance to the Chemical area as the 'countdown' sequence is active).

How can I continue to the Examination area ? (Is there a save available ?)

Are you sure you used the right patch? There are two different ones...
First is for the downloaded version, and the second is for the CD version.

When game crashed 'Blackbox' identified the problem and directed me to the Frictional Tech support site. I'm certain the site said it is the Windows patch for the Paradox Interactive US & EU retail CD version (of which I have recently purchased the English version).

I'm 73-years old and your interest is appreciated!

OK. Could you, please, post contents of hpl.log from: "My Documents/Penumbra/Black Plague".

Can't find it !
I have My Docs>Program Files>Paradox Interactive>Penumbra Black Plague> then in this I have 'Install_files' and 'redist' folders.

I've opened 'redist' but can not find hpl.log anywhere. Have tried Google Desktop search (not sure how it works- but it often finds lost items) but no such file seems to be anywhere in visible files.

Sorry.

Hmm... Strange? Well, then we'll have to just wait for the Developers.

Many thanks again. How do I notify the Developers that their Patch will download and can be 'run', but encounters a "Code 5 " error (as my first message and screenshot) and can not be installed?

Sorry to be a nuisance. (Will be off-line for a week)

Sounds like you a problem with the permissions of the files or that one of the files are in use by another application for some reason.

Try to uninstall the game(this will not delete the saved games you have) then install again and directly apply the 1.0.1 update. If it is a problem with the permissions not all files might be deleted on an uninstall, so when you do the new install install the game into a new location to make sure all files are new.

Thank you Jens

Removed and re-installed game, applied patch - and all is well.

Thank you (and Scrapper) again for help.
