I thought you played Gothic 3. That game is horrendous... As I explained in the first post.
Gothic II is better gameplay wise, than Gothic though.

That's what I say. Gothic 1 has the best story and best atmosphere, Gothic 2 is even that good, but more friendly than the first one (green trees, less rough dialogues, piano music etc.), it's bigger and there are a lot of dungeons with puzzles to explore. It's really worth to play directly the Gold Edition, because you shouldn't miss the extra location. Story is more than just kill Orcs, lol. It's like I would say story of Amnesia is to kill Alexander. There is always more... Gothic 3 is the worst of all Gothics by Piranha Bytes, but still a good game with the biggest and most beautyful world. The story is just a bit "thin". It's only playable with the latest community patch.

Gothic 3 is no bad game, it's just not as good as the previous.
Should play them all three.

Please play first the original Gothic II Gold, before trying the multiplayer modification.
And you should install my patch to see the videos, play in full resolutions and have other fixes for the best experience.

Hey, I finally re-installed Gothic (1) because of pure nostalgia!!!
The murky atmosphere is still unsurpassed.
