History of the Universe and Earth

So I found a 10 minute video about the History of our Universe and Earth.

The video also mention the source of those events in the description.

I think this is a great video and is factual in many ways. But there are religious people on this forum (trust me, there must be.), but I want your personal opinions on it.

So what do you guys think and feel about it?

RE: History of the Universe and Earth

I'm a christian and I've studied natural science. Didn't watch the whole video but I presume it shows the regular stuff when it comes to this subject, and despite my religion I have no problem in beliving the scientists. If science proves something then it is proven, and even though big bang haven't been proven it's a very convincing theory and there is no part in the bible that says it didn't happen.
God: "In the beginning there was an explosion, you don't know what that is yet until the chinese invents the gunpowder but any way, and...well... it's not actually an explosion more like... shit...imagine you're making popcorn and they're bright... Never mind, I said let there be light and there was light."

Like I said in a thread before, many people take the bible for a book in natural science which is wrong. But religious people during the dark ages *cough*catholics*cough* used the bible to control and influence people and when scientists came along they threatened the churches position since they could prove that what the priests said about the physical world, like the earth being flat and the centre of the universe, was all wrong. This led to a very anti-science attitude in the church to keep that control over the people and for some stupid reason that attitude can still be found today. God doesn't tell us how this world works, every atom and molecule, it's up to us to find out ourselves.

So yeah, I'm on both sides on this.

RE: History of the Universe and Earth

Great Video!
I've seen it before Tongue

About my opinion:

Big Bang is not proved, so I don't "believe" it because we are not sure yet and generally speaking no one should believe anything that is not supported by hard data. However, it's the best theory we have, which is supported by experimental evidence and explains a lot of things (it's not enought yet to be sure). Therefore, we must investigate further to either disprove it or find even more solid evidence about it. I am not direspectful in any way. I think science and mathematics are the best tools we have to understand the entire cosmos. Also, if I had to guess, the Big Bang will be my best bet.

I don't think that religious people shouldn't take this theory seriously. In fact, they ought to. The problems arise when the individual is so conservative and stubborn that he/she probably wouldn't accept that "1+1=2" if it's not written in the Bible.

P.S. Believe me, I've met such individuals and when I heard them saying such bull**** I wanted to slam them in the face with the sledge hammer of fallacy.

I know right? Religious people (no offense but) are really, really stupid. I mean I asked my religious friend whether he believes in Evolution and he stated that God created the Universe and he said there's a lot of evidence.

Evidence my ass. Where?

Also, I was like one of those people too. When I was younger, I believed that God created the Universe but now?

I am an Atheist.

Because why not? It's my life. Mine not his.

Wow, you might want to rephrase that. Thanks for completely ignoring my post and going on taking the whole concept of religion and generalizing it totally. I'd say that the great majority of religious people all believe in both science and religion. In fact, didn't the pope recently state that the theory about evolution and big bang was very convincing, and in case you haven't noticed Islam strongly encourages the field of science. It's just that the minority usually scream the loudest and therefore are misinterpreted as the majority. If you want an example just look at the AMFP section. I promise you that you have met a lot of religious people who are like me, it's just that we don't go about pointing out the fact that we belive in a combination of both science and religion.

@JustAnotherPlayer

I agree, but let's not be destructive and exorbitant. Not all religious people are stupid. But there is an awful lot of them. On the other side not all atheists are smart.

I am tired of this thing you mentioned:
Spoiler below!

Idiot: "Darwin was a monkey lover and his theory is wrong because it's not written in the Bible. Also, it is ridiculous because my grandfather was not an ape*. Evolution is not supported with evidence either."

When I hear such claims I usually smash my head in the wall until I've killed enough brain cells to make both of us equally intelligent.
Don't want to believe the theory? That's fine. Just stop finding ridiculous excuses to why you don't and find a proper reason.

*Also humans did not come from apes. Apes and human had a common ancestor.

Believing in God is fine. You know what's not fine? Being an idiot.

As for me I haven't decided what I am or to what I believe yet.

JAP, if the reason why you created this topic is to in some way try to bring down religions or those who choose to follow a religion, then i'm going to close this topic. Otherwise, control yourself.

Fine. Sorry, that was me a bit rampaging against Religion. But I don't have anything to hate it. Just that I was actually mad in a minute....
