Won't load the Farming the World chapter

Every time I get to the Farming the World chapter the game just freezes during the load screen. I can hear the music and sound effects, but the game never actually loads the chapter. I've let it be for 10 minutes and still nothing.

I figured this was a fluke, so I hit ctrl-alt-deleted, closed the program and tried again. Same thing. Then I restarted my computer. Still no luck. It's super frustrating as I really like the game, but now I can't see how it ends (nevermind that I had to play through the proceeding chapter 3 times. I've now made a save just before I exit the level).

Any suggestions?

Using Steam? Tried to verify the cache integrity? Right-click on the game in steam, choose properties and find the option under the last tab.
