Daniel vs Mandus

For real now. Daniel. He was more grounded in reality, more human, more relatable. In the other hand Mandus created a machine that killed people and turned them into food...ALSO CHILD SLAVORY (i know it was a noble thing at the time but, C'MON)
But at the end, they both redeem themselves, i still prefer Daniel tho.

Actually, child labour reforms had been passed in 1833 and 1847 that reduced the daily amount of hours children had to work down to 10. What Mandus was doing would have realistically been looked upon with suspicion.

Regardless, I still prefer him over Daniel - he's clearly the most 'heroic' protagonist in the Amnesia series (his savior complex leads to all his atrocities, yet it also accounts for his lack of fear) and that makes him less frustrating. But Philip is the most 'badass' of them all, since he actually wielded a weapon and was capable of killing his enemies.

Daniel, 100%.

Daniel was quite relatable, and from a game perspective was an ideal character for submerging yourself into. His backstory was disconnected from your current actions through the amnesia, but was still present enough to give you direction. From a story perspective, I found that his actions were the ones that you hope you wouldn't take, but fear you would.

Mandus was just a nutjob. His reason for going off the rails was never particularly clear to me (saw the future, right. And a man who can build an automated factory couldn't find a better friggin way to deal with it?!) He was apparently creepy as hell before all this started happening (the drawings of what I assume were his wife, among other things) and downright stupid to boot. (Reactivate the machine, Mandus!) From a gameplay perspective, his reactions in the notes made me want to strangle him and pushed me way out of the character. I never received the same sense of agency while playing as Mandus that I did as Daniel.

Mandus was a complete fruitcake, no sympathy for him at all.

By the way, it's funny how there's such a turnaround of opinion. At first the majority preferred Mandus over the previous protagonist, but now the pendulum's fallen back to the older game. I still stand by my preference - Daniel's probably my least favorite Frictional character to play (he is more interesting than Phillip, however.)
