Kreekaton - I remember being a bit off-put by that statement about "too scary", since I don't find many games all that scary anyway (or films for that matter). Outlast was, for me, not that scary. Good atmosphere and sound, but not as scary as I've heard from people. But then again, its not all about the scariness, Resident Evil REmake is not scary, but has some of the best atmosphere and environments in a game that I've ever played, and I only played it for the first time last year. Its worth playing just for the atmosphere. Since I heard the environment artist from REmake is working on The Evil Within, I've been really excited for it.
I'm excited since the director of Resident Evil 4 is working on it, and that was actually a really good game with creepy elements - unlike its subsequent sequels. Resident Evil's a lost cause, so it's nice to see a director with a good game on his resume working on a new story.
Looks like conventional action-horror with much of fun-elements.
I wouldn't think that violence stuff is scary, it's just ruining the atmosphere by showing the player it's a "game". A game, where you are superhero and kill monsters what turns into dumbed down splatter effects.
I think it's fun, but not horror or scary in any way.
Surely, I just can talk about what I've seen of this game.

I'm actually all for this title from the looks of gameplay since it's been a very long time, at least to me, that we had a good action-horror that leans a lot towards the horror while without losing that action element which makes action-horror so engaging when done right.
