Unless you're making a VR game, I would feel very uncomfortable with no HUDs; no statuses or maps or information.

I always hate HUD. A very small life bar is OK, but that's it! It would be even better to move this into the inventory to give some health feedback like Penumbra and Amnesia does. I hate the item quick-bar in Risen and I also modded off the compass/mini-map. But you are right with the animations. Sorry what I said before - that was not really correct. To have realistic monster animations is very important. Here, Risen fails too. Risen is NOT a masterpiece like Gothic anymore, but still a very good game with a lot of potential for a masterpiece. But no question, the monster anims are TERRIBLE. PB did it much better 15 years ago.

So you tell me that everytime I want to check my health, mana or stamina I need to open my inventory and risk getting my butt kicked by my enemies? That literally makes no sense. Imagine a difficult boss fight, want to check your health, you have to open up your inventory, wanna cast a spell but not too sure if your mana amount suffices, open up that inventory. That idea is stupid in it's every aspect. HOWEVER, it does work for stuff that Frictional does. Their games are known for minimalistic HUDs, which is a great argument for throwing life status into inventory.

I remember there being a health and stamina bar in Dark Souls 1, Dark Souls 2 and Bloodborne. What are you trying to say?

I was referring to the fact if you opened your inventory it didn't pause the game...

Finally I created my own HUD mod which makes it much more discreet.
The squares are used to put items in there for quick access. Do you like it?

I don't think it any longer works with the games artstyle, it looks more like something out of a sci-fi game now. Also it's generally not a great idea to have transparency framed, the constant movement inside of the icons will attract the eye of the player and take you out of the game even more.

I can't see those images.
Nevermind, seems to be fixed now.

Now I selected some items and draw them into the slots. There is no greater contrast movement than before. I think the HUD is now more unobstrusive and doesn't break the immersion so much. It also doesn't look like Sci-Fi for me. And in the shadow the HUD is almost invisible. I really like my mod.Big Grin
