That people, is called SHAMELESS SPECULATION. This people also conveniently ignore that the cells have THOUSANDS of irreducibly complex machines. Are they gonna find explanation for all of them? Of course not, but NOVA conveniently escapes that!

So saying it came out of nothing is not considered speculation as well? Remember... Bacteria lived whiteout the presence of animals more than half of earth's history. That is a TON of time to develop complex machinery... in fact more time than what fish had to develop legs! Evolution comes from mutation. And that "engine" could have appeared as an appendix at first that only became useful for a cell once mutations made it functional.
