So, today is the 17th time I orbited around the sun, and I did two exams today in school.

Only because it takes the earth an entire year to complete its orbit around the sun. I think what you were trying to say was "today was the 17th time the earth revolved around its axis".

Only because it takes the earth an entire year to complete its orbit around the sun. I think what you were trying to say was "today was the 17th time the earth revolved around its axis".

Technically everyone is orbiting the sun... we just so happen to do it on a planet's surface... So I think what he said is also correct.

No, he said he orbited around the sun 17 times this month (technically he didn't, it requires some basic inference), which would mean that 17 years have passed.

I think he was saying it was his 17th birthday. It takes the Earth 24 hours to revolve around it's axis.

Ah, that would explain it. Seriously though, who announces it's their birthday in such a manner? I assumed he was talking about days of the month because it's the 19th and it was close enough (I assumed it was a typo).
