The Quiet Ones

I found an interesting looking horror movie from the creators of The Woman In Black.
But the reviews are completely average.

Anyone watched this movie? Is it worth to buy?

He means that generally certain genres of movies, horror being one of them, have a reputation of being "held back" on a better presentation when they are limited to what they can show by a PG-13 rating.

PG-13 is a joke of a rating for horror films pretty much. To put it short, PG-13 is a cert created after Spielberg (mainly) suggested it, so that there would be a middle ground between PG and R rated films in the US. The goal was so filmmakers could make mostly PG films but with more adult themes and whatnot. Great, nothing wrong with the initial idea. However due to the film industry having stats backing up that PG-13 is the most successful bracket for making money, what it has done is;

- Films that were originally planned to be rated R have been put tamed down to reach a PG-13 rating in order to make more money, this goes against the filmmakers original wishes, and it pisses not only them off but film enthusiasts.

- I said i'd keep it short, but if you want a GREAT video on the issue then I suggest seeing this

.

- Also if you are looking for more to whet your appetite on hating the MPAA then definitely check out 'This Movie is not yet Rated' to see how corrupt of an organization the MPAA are and how it is crushing the film industry with censorship over art.

Anyways about the film....

I am glad to see Hammer making more films. They have a great history, and I was really impressed with The Woman in Black, which by the was also a PG-13. So just because this film could be a PG-13 doesn't mean it will totally suck, but you get the point by now... From the trailer, this film doesn't seem to really offer anything new or original, although it is a Hammer film and I do like their style.

Lastly, dat CGI at the end, lordy lordy, looks so shitty.

The Woman In Black was nice too and I'm also trying to find good horror movies. Ever heard of The Apparition? It's a bad horror movie but IMO it's terrifying.

The Woman In Black is one of the best horror movies ever made. It's probably the scariest with an excellent sound and atmosphere. So I doubt the creators forget how to make horror movies.

But it is a bit weird that the reviews are completely different.

RE: The Quiet Ones

The reason why I like The Woman in Black so much is because:
- Great casting. Radcliffe did a great job. Ciaran Hinds was great as the support too.
- They did the child actors right. So many times I see child break consistent acting with their off performances, but they actually didn't let that happen.
- Setting, Costume, Atmosphere, Mise-en-Scene and all that jazz was 10/10.

Hammer proved that they can make a scary PG-13. BUT, Although we'll never be able to know, I reckon if the film wasn't contained so much it would have been better.

There was barely anything new or original, the film has solid performances and style which is enough to get a 8/10 for me. However, I can't help but feel like the film had been held back by its PG-13 rating.

Horror doesn't need to be gory, bloody, perverse or anything else that would make it an R rated movie or beyond.

Sure it helps, but writing and direction always trumps gimmicks.

I'll check the movie out, seems interesting.
