Hi !

Also using Ubuntu 9.10 AMD 64 & Penumbra collection.

I found a workaround :

- install pulseaudio-utils that contain "padsp" (oss -> pulseaudio wrapper)
- edit the Penumbra shortcuts and add "padsp" before the executables paths
- choose OSS audio output (so it needs the update)

Cheers !

building your own, or using your distributions "openal" driver instead of the distributed openal driver should also help with that. Just make sure it's the OpenAL-soft openAL implementation.

This is the Mess I am dealing with is trying to get openal-soft compiled cleanly enough so that i will work with a variety of distributions so it won't blow up. Either that or I stop distributin Openal and REQUIRE the use of the distribution version (This looks like what Regnum Online is doing for their linux builds)

Thanks for replying. Well, I have no clue. Maybe the guy from Icculus could give you a piece of advice about that ?

I wonder to what extent it is a good idea to statically link important libs. Couldn't you use the local one if available / more recent that the provided one ?

Hmm, I just figured out that Sacred Gold was also affected by the same issue in Ubuntu 9.10.
I have to disable the "libopenal" supplied with the game to force using the one build into Ubuntu, otherwise the sound is "trashed" once in a while.

According to you, who is at fault here ? What should be changed / fixed ? Who should I report this bug to ?

Cheers :-)

So what's the status here? Did you ever get PulseAudio support working? I hope so, because if so, you can use my 5.1 surround sound. Big Grin

Hmm, actually, just disabling openal and using the "native" one (from the distro) doesn't work. It worked because I used some ppa with some openal/alsa/pulse... updates.

Anyway, with penumbra I can use padsp (not with sacred).

One can install this openal version (works with ubuntu) for work around this problem (you have to disable the openal provided with the game) :

http://ftp.debian.org/pool/main/o/openal...1_i386.deb
or http://ftp.debian.org/pool/main/o/openal..._amd64.deb

works with sacred gold too

Is there any chance to know which weekend it will be? I mean I already played through all three parts, but it would be nice to do it again without graphical glitches.

Here some help for ubuntu users, all infos on this thread seem obsolete, dead links etc...

After moving libopenal files in Overture/lib and BlackPlague/lib :
So check this ppa : https://launchpad.net/~ibuclaw/+archive/ibuclaw
Or add it directly with this command :
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ibuclaw/ibuclaw

Then update :
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

Here sound should be fixed now !

By the way nice game.
But it's quite freaking that my nvidia geforce 200 diplays as much fps in top quality than my ATI 4870 o_O...
However only slowdowns, no glitches.
Again it would be nice to have access to all versions Win, Lin and Mac for one payment !
