Hi experts,

I must say I was looking forward to try out the Penumbra collection, but after installing, re-installing and reading this forum for the past hour, I am deeply frustrated.

I downloaded the collection file right after the purchase,
(md5sum: 26f6c28936867c454ab7fe3747c6423c PenumbraCollection-1.0.sh)
installed it successfully in my user directory and then just try to run
~/PenumbraCollection/overture
which gave me
/home/gentoo-levent/PenumbraCollection/overture: line 3: /home/gentoo-levent/PenumbraCollection/Overture/overture: No such file or directory
Ok, this was only a minor problem, so I just ran
~/PenumbraCollection/Overture/penumbra
I briefly got a black screen with the loading message, then the game crashed with the following message:
(0) : fatal error C9999: *** exception during compilation ***
Cg compiler terminated due to fatal error/home/gentoo-levent/PenumbraCollection/Overture/penumbra: line 9:  8969 Segmentation fault      ./penumbra.bin "$@"
Penumbra: Overture exited unexpectedly, please check
/home/gentoo-levent/.frictionalgames/Penumbra/Overture/hpl.log
for any error messages
Also try running
ulimit -c unlimited
And re-running Penumbra and try and recreate the error
then submit the generated core file or stack trace
I tried the two other games with the same result. My system is a 64bit gentoo with a Nvidia Quadro FX 570M, driver version 185.18.14.
I attached my hpl.log which looks clean...

Try following the dictions in the last post here to download the latest nvidia Cg libraries and see if that clears it up.

I hate to break into a thread but I get the same error as both root and a regular user and I have an ATI 1300 card in my laptop. I am running Xandros 4 which is based on Debian Sarge. If you like I can start a new thread.

have you tried upgrading the Cg libs? Can you post your hpl.log and the output of glxinfo

I can certainly try that although I am not using an Nvidia card. I was able to run it on a Fedora based distro with no issues on another system with an older ATI 9700, I will try again tonight when I get home from work.

The only thing in hpl.log is check serial which is weird as I have a valid serial I am happy to post my receipt. glxinfo has the following:

Can you run other 3d apps/games? And do you mean that there is only one line in the hpl.log? or no other errors? There is a bit of other detail in the hpl.log that will tell me weather you have your card configured correctly.

There are two of those logs on my machine one is empty the other has just that one line.
I run Openarena, Quake 2, and Tuxracer deluxe with no issues, plus all 3d screensavers also function normally.
