What does these keywords mean?

I'm having trouble understanding words like 'bump' or 'double-posting', can someone explain what these keywords (like the ones above) mean?

Bump: To artificially send an existing topic to the front page, usually by making a post saying "bump".

Double post: Posting two messages in a row, it's double posting if no one has replied to the topic since your last post, and you make a post again.

RE: What does these keywords mean?

Instead of double posting, you can just edit your previous comment. However if it has been ages since then, and your post is no longer near the top of the page (like another page), I personally see no harm in doing a bump and a double post at the same time, granted you actually have something new to tell and not just doing it for the purpose of having the thread near the top again. If you got an update to an old development thread, editing your reply won't make it show up for others as unread.

Perhaps the mods have different views on this, but I do think they agree.

This is actually enough.
Of course, the "new content" need to be of at least a bit of a size. No reason to bump for small updates, but if you, like me, have a thread where I post different concepts, that people can download, I think it's totally alright to bump, to let people know there is more content.

Trying is the first step to success.

Another one, "necro", means to bump something from quite a while ago. The line is unclear, but I'd say 1.5-2 years or longer. Smile

RE: What does these keywords mean?

If you do it quickly, they auto merge. I think if they're older than 15 minutes or so, they don't.

Double posting and forcing it to merge will allow you to embed more images than the 4 limit btw. But if you edit your comment afterwards, you can't save it again without removing them.

I do believe replies to a thread that isn't active should also have a bit of content...
(Not sure if this thread was on the first page before...)
Anyway, thanks for the input and welcome to the forum ^_^
