RE: The Ultimate SOMA Discussion Thread
Well, the engine is quite optimized.
Will there be a sci-fi lamp as in Amnesia lantern for dark areas?
Would you like for SOMA to have DLC story continuation, additional world exploration or just one rounded game?

RE: The Ultimate SOMA Discussion Thread
Previous games were always one rounded game. FG do not need DLC when the community makes their own for free.
Also, in the E3 trailer shown at the PC Conference at E3, it showed the light from a flash light, so my bets are that it will contain one.
Should I play SOMA first or go straight into experimenting with HPL3? I have an idea for the mod I want to make but I was just looking for some advice.

There's going to have to be some kind of portable light source since you're going to be venturing into very dark halls (that thus far do not have that pesky "blue haze" that ruined A Machine For Pigs' darkness) and especially under the water, because it is super dark there if you go real deep.

There's definitely a flashlight.

What about some collaborative effort between Frictional Games and some studio like AAMFP project was? In the meantime FG could developing another game

Yes, like a mod.

I would definitely say that they won't be planning on any games for a while after launch.

RE: The Ultimate SOMA Discussion Thread
Question to FG's staff:
When I'll open the game for the first time, there will be a "Welcome, player" messages with a little explanation about how the world of SOMA is working, like we saw in the Amnesia first time startup?

You mean the pre-menu. I hope they won't use it in-game, because such info texts are a no-go for the immersion. Out of the game like the pre-menu in Amnesia, it is OK.
I think you reach the best impact when you make a game about learning by doing and not telling the player how it works.

RE: The Ultimate SOMA Discussion Thread
Yeah, A Machine for Pigs went all out with telling the story and not showing it. Perhaps too much since having people read so much text may be off-putting. That said I did like the stylized loading screens and cryptic poetic text in each of them.
But since SOMA is said to have no loading screens, I am very curious to see just how the storytelling is going to work. It's only two weeks away so it won't be much longer to wonder
