Spoiler below!
Daniel goes home and faces trial? Daniel spends the rest of his days in a decline, looking over his shoulder every couple of minutes?

You could do some short side stories as a sort of episodic DLC buzzword thingy. But that's about it, and Frictional do not sound inclined to do it.

One way would be to tell Alexander's story before the events of Amnesia, the story of his (supposed?) wife, someone related to Daniel or so. Only problem that would arise with all of those would be that regardless if it's sequel or prequel, it would take quite huge balls and some serious effort to make it connect reasonably with the events of TDD and still keep it interesting.

I doubt it's going to happen, but the possibility is there, the question is will Frictional Games go for it is another story. As noted the only real problem is how do you make it a part of the whole story\timeline of the game's events rather than just some loose end.

Amnesia The Overture Black Requiem

While we're on the topic of silly sequel names: Overnesia: Dark Requiem.

But back to the topic at hand; I don't think that the next game will be a sequel. Daniel's story has been told to it's full extent and it really wouldn't make much sense to keep expanding on it. Maybe there's some room for DLC where you get to play as another character. Maybe. I do hope that the next game is another survival horror game since, in my mind, FG have pretty much proven themselves as masters of the horror genre. Not that I'm saying they wouldn't do well in another area, but I really would like to see if they can top themselves with another horror game.

I'd like to see their take on combat in horror games. The main problem with FG though is that there are no good animators/character modelers, at least not one that can create models in the pace needed for a new game.

No. Straying from combat is what makes the game so unique and frightening. Imagine Amnesia if you could just run out with a shotgun when you hear a brute coming. It'd be too easy and will remove the tension Amnesia creates.

RE: Next Frictional Game

I want a sequel. Big Grin

You can assume you survived the end of Amnesia 1, and carry on escaping the castle. Then something like a guardian of the shadow comes for you. Tongue
If not a sequel, then another one of Lovecraftian story like ersickerash said.

Same character, different story.
