RE: SOMA on GOG?

Please, enlighten us of any DRM-Free games which are purchased through the Steam store.

Please note that, DRM on Steam applies to the fact that the games are tied to your account, requiring you to sign in in order to play the games unless playing offline. Also note that just because you can use another computer, log in, download and play does not mean the game is DRM-Free.

RE: SOMA on GOG?

There's a whole bunch of them.

http://steam.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_DRM-free_games

These games do not require steam to be running at all when played, in the cases of these games steam works just like GOG, download the game. Keep it forever even if the servers go down.

So yes, there's a whole bunch of DRM free games on steam.

DRM-free and Steam don't mix. Steam IS DRM

There are DRM-free games on Steam.

I prefer GOG.

While it is true that you will need steam to at least download the game the first time, the Steam DRM on the games is optional and there are plenty of games that doesn't include it or make it so you can easily just remove a dll or two and continue playing the game, without steam.

I'm not kidding. You can try it with Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Download it, copy or move the files, shutdown steam and uninstall it, start the game.

Here's a list for you:

While I can agree that you need Steam the first time to download it. But that doesn't mean the game itself is not DRM free.

Ah okay then, I stand corrected.

For the record, this was the definition of DRM I was using:

RE: SOMA on GOG?

You doesn't even need Steam to install these games? DRM-free means that you can install and play without internet, account or third-party software!

Ah as I understand you can copy the install folder where ever you want and start the launcher. OK, then it's DRM-free. But I still prefer to have a setup file.

RE: SOMA on GOG?

If DRM is having your games tied to an account, then GOG is also DRM.

So that logic is quite flawed, I have several of my favourite non-DRM steam games on an external drive, I just copy them over whenever I want to play them.

RE: SOMA on GOG?

You doesn't need a GOG account to play your games after they were downloaded. So GOG is DRM-free. You only need to register an account, because GOG is a store where you have your library. But the games you owned are not connected to your account or require GOG in any way to run.
