I am one of those mathtards who is obsessed with rhythms and pattern seeking
some modern genres do sound excellent but their songs are very intuitive (i.e. you listen to it and it makes you feel good) and lack the structural and thematic complexity that I crave like a drug addict
only in pieces like these can I get high on the intricate musical patterns created by masterful spamming of counterpoint and chromaticism
I dunno I just love the combo of dissonance and face melting complexity of a lot of these bands, it creates a really interesting sound a lot of the time. Plus unlike a lot of "intense" bands from other genres there's actually more depth to what they're playing musically than just trying to out br00tal all the other bands.
