Solved: 8 Years, 1 Month ago Overture Crashes when starting New Game

No matter what I do, I cannot get Overture to run. I purchased it via Steam. The menus run fine through to the intro video when starting a new game. Then I hear the sound of the level starting (music and sound effects keep running just fine), but the screen is completely black. When I click I get the message that the game is not responding and have to kill it.

I'm running Vista with a Nvidia 8600M GT with latest drivers. I've tried just about everything I can think of, including changing the hardware sound mode, verifying the game files, and manually installing OpenAL.

Any ideas?
I did a bit more poking around and found the hpl file with several errors. I can't make heads or tails of it, but maybe someone else can.

Make sure you really uninstall the current graphics driver and then reboot and install the latest driver you could find for the card. I know this sounds unnecessary but the problem you describe is exactly like a driver issue and sometimes drivers are corrupted and the only way to make sure all files are remove on a re-install is to do it like this.
