That is freaky.. How much memory is in that video card??? Are you running one or two monitors? and what resolution is your monitor?? Do you have alot of other programs running at the time?

That looks like severe Video memory corruption or out of video memory. (I run into that some as I run dual monitors with a 256MB card). This more prevalent in Mac OS X as it's always running a compositor (think like Compiz on linux or Aero glass on Vista).

Have you tried lowing the shader quality and seeing if the game crashes?

no not on windows but in windowed mode (or non-full screen), but I didn't realise I could download the windows version as well, so I will do that and try it under bootcamp on the same computer.

And yes, I lowered the quality and it made no difference.
I do have two monitors but also tried with only one connected and that didn't help either. main monitor res. is 1600x1024
videocard is NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT with 512 mb

the saga continues.

Just an addition about people downloading the patch: I wanted to note that the app shows "Penumbra: Overture 1.0.3013", which confused me a little as I thought 1.1 would be the most recent version. So I downloaded the patch and now Penumbra asks for a serial - which I never got, since I bought the Humble Indie package.
Of course, looking at the disk image which is named "penumbra_overture_1.1.dmg" didn't come to my mind... Big Grin

Hmm, have to add something though, Neither Black Plague (Demo) nor Overture (Humble Indie) work with "Post Effects" enabled. They will crash, when I quit using Apple-Alt-Escape there is a Kernel Panic and the log shows the NVIIDIA Resman.
I'm on a MacBook Pro with 2.4GHz C2D, 2 GB RAM, NVidia 8600M GT with 128 MB GRAM, OS 10.4.11.

What is with apple's crappy drivers. As I'm testing on a nvidia 7300 with posteffects, and never had a crash. And that machine started out running tiger, then leopard, and now snow leopard.
