Penumbra Overture, Ending Crash?

Hi there, I've played through penumbra overture from the beginning till the point where I meet Red and after cutting the power to the main door and walking through it, the normal black screen comes up with paragraphs of writing but i have a few seconds to begin reading and the game crashes...saying that it may be due to the graphic and sound drivers but i know that they have been installed correctly otherwise I wouldn't have been able to play that far and also they are good enough to run the game...I tried deleting the settings.cfg file as the service suggested but that hasnt helped at all and I updated penumbra overture through the frictional games support website and that hasn't helped either.

penumbra.exe caused an EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION in module
penumbra.exe at 0023:0058C050

My PC Specs:
9216MB RAM
DirectX 11
nVidia GeForce GTS 240 Dual Graphics Card
Intel Core i7 CPU @ 2.67GHz (8 CPUs)

I am going to try reinstalling the game but if anyone could help me fix this problem without losing my saved data I would appreciate it.
