Game freezes early on (using Intel HD 4000 GPU)

I'm able to load SOMA and play a few minutes of the game, but it keeps freezing, usually around the first time I try to throw an object.

My computer's specifications:

Mid-2012 Macbook Pro
OS X Version 10.11.2
2.3 GHz Intel Core i7
8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 memory
Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536 MB
Currently have 30.92 GB of free storage space

I know Intel is not the recommended graphics card but everything else fits the requirements and supposedly Intel HD 4000 can still work for this game with unspecified "issues." Is there anything I can do? I've tried lowering the display settings and it doesn't seem to help.

Also I'm attaching the HPL.log file. I'm not super literate in this kind of thing.

I'm actually now realizing that I do have a discrete NVidia GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB graphics card, so I'm even more confused. I should fit all the system requirements, so why does it still freeze so quickly?

Also, according to my activity monitor, SOMA starts using >100% of CPU before it freezes. My fan also gets pretty loud. Could it be a problem with my fan...?

A small note:
Problems with fans usually means that the fan starts sounding like a TRACTOR. If it just sounds like it winds up to its highest setting, then it's probably that your CPU is overheating for some reason. That seems to fit with 100% of the CPU being used and the computer freezing the game (to save the hardware).
