Annoying Amnesia The Dark Descent graphics glitch

I have Doom 3 already installed and it works fine.

Hmm... I will probably have to buy a card and try and fix this. This will not happen until sometime after release though.

Meanwhile, I am hoping this only affects halos (and not occlusion in general) and I have made a little fix.

I have a attached a zip to this post. Unzip the archive to the "billboard" folder in the install folder of the game. It should replace two files (if no files are replaced it has been extracted to wrong directory).'

For normal (windows) installations the default is:
"c:\Program Files\Amnesia - The Dark Descent\redist\billboards"

And on steam it is:
"...Steam\steamapps\common\amnesia the dark descent\billboards"

What it does is that it turns on Depth test for halos. This should look almost as good as normal and remove the problem.

Thank you so much. That seemed to have did the trick.

The only downside is that without SSAO samples turned on I'm getting a solid 50-60 FPS, but when I turn it on to just 4 samples the FPS dip down into the 20's and 30's whereas before I was getting around 45-50 FPS with SSAO samples set at 16 and everything maxed out.

Perhaps it's just a byproduct of the workaround. In all reality, it's not a big deal and I really don't care. Thanks again, now I can enjoy the demo.

You don't have windows Aero or anything like that on? Also if u still have some older driver you tested installed, you wanna go back to the latest.

Also, make sure SSAO is on medium and consider turning down resolution aswell. 1280x768 should be pretty sharp for example, but will make ssao much faster.

The attached halo fix resolves the issue for me. Another 5830 card with 10.8 drivers on Win 7 x64. Thank you!

Yep, fix works for me too. Also 5830 card. But on Win XP.

Yeah, it works, though asCasey has pointed out, there seems to be some slow down in some locals. I'll test it some more. However, at least the problem has been resolved (no more headaches! LOL!)!

I just registered to download this fix, as I am having the same issue.

However my card is the ATI Radeon HD5850.

Just thought I'd add the info for you.
