Can't get game to start (Windows 10/steam/ATI 390x)

tried to play the game today and it won't start. I can load the options but then when i try to launch the game, it just goes to a black screen and clocks. the game never starts and its kind of frozen there (i have to manually right click and close it down). i've googled the issues and tried the following:

1. verify game cache through steam
2. install/reinstall
3. set graphics settings to low
4. update my ati 390x drivers

I have updated my Win7OS to Win10, and had some issues about some games. Although my graphics are same like yours I think your Radeon is more powerful than my, so after win10 update DmC5 had big lags, and some render software as Maya and C4D were showing black screen.

I suggest you to download Radeon graphics software from their official site, compatible with windows 10, as your previous driver is not compatible, (windows 7/8 or whatever).

Unfortunately I can not guarantee you that this could help 100%, as Amnesia TDD has some issues with AMD Computers, although in my case, it worked for me.

PS: I suggest you to remove useless software from your PC and disable some processes from Task Manager. In some cases some of softwares affects the work of the drivers (especially affects Internet Drivers and Graphic Drivers). Don't forget to scan your PC on malware activities.

I had this issue and found that the Xbox One controller connected wirelessly was causing the problem. If my controller was off, the game would start without issues. Might be something that Frictional could fix, however since the game is older, they may not patch it.

wow this was the fix. i didn't have it connected wirelessly, but when i unplugged the xbox one controller and started it, it was fine. thanks guys!

THANK YOU. I had the same exact problem that OP was describing and I have spent the last 2 hours trying to uninstall/reinstall the game and drivers and all kinds of tricks. My wired controller that I use to play SOMA was still plugged in and as soon as I unplugged it and relaunched the game, it worked perfectly. This issue, while somewhat specific, needs to be made more apparent somehow, I had all but given up on trying to get Amnesia to work until now! Thank you!
