Hey! Was thinking it might be a cool idea to start a YouTube channel and/or blog about video game reviews, anyone else done this? Would start with games I already own, but would love to work my up to get free ones
By all means go for it, but be sure to know that this is what you want and what you're passionate about. You gotta enjoy doing it if you're gonna get far with it. It's a bit early to be talking about getting free games for promotions

Haha, yeah I won't expect a copy of Halo 5 in my mailbox anytime soon Are there any podcast/youtube channels/blogs you think are worth viewing for inspiration?
My company runs the channel HorrorHive. While not based around video games, it is based around the horror genre. There's quite a few "Lets Slays" (Lets Plays) in regards to video games. It is planned to start interviewing video game companies along with starting reviews.
Moved into the Community section because of YouTube (Let's Play etc.) related stuff.
I did some let's plays and my own channel related gaming content. Had plans for a big gaming channel in terms of content and variety. However, as always, life comes in the way and currently I am busy with other things and have a better idea in general for the future. Will reboot from scratch sometime, therefore no videos can be found anymore. The ones I published thus far are now underground stuff.

OK, seriously now:
I recommend checking every possible type of channel there are from music to sports and makeup to history. And I mean really watching how they do it! How they record, edit, produce and publish. Take what you like, leave what you dislike and add your own stuff. Reading about video production isn't bad either since there are some "rules" you have to follow. Many people forget or don't know about these and the videos end up looking cheap because of it. Some rules include the rule of thirds, progressive video, good audio and video quality, white balance, etc. YouTube isn't the easiest platform either so reading about it before starting will help in a long run.
Here's some channels I've found to make good quality content from gaming category.
Some of these create similar content than others from the list and few are more exclusive type of content, but I tried to include different types from different people. Some are more known than others and these are not in any special order. There are even more than these but I'm not going to include every possible channel that creates good content. Check the Related and Recommended Channels on each of these to find even more.
As a bonus I drop in Ultrasyd: https://soundcloud.com/ultrasyd
He's my favorite chiptune artists. He makes music using retro game consoles (Atari, Game Boy, etc.) and modern DAWs. He is also responsible of my theme song, which can be found from his account if you are interested. Very nice and enthusiastic guy!
Remember that to produce good content, you have to know what you are doing. That means knowledge and knowledge is power. Making good content also takes lots of time. It ain't easy thing to pull off so patience is needed.
Wow! Thanks so much for all the info! Has been interesting looking through all the channels...I think I'm getting an idea of what to do now
I'm thinking to create a blog with this company. Then start a YouTube channel (reading this blog post). Then I'd like to do both (a written review and video review), as I feel like there are people who prefer one over the other.
