Profile Dissapeared

I was pretty far into the game and upon attempting to load my profile I noticed it disappeared. When I attempted to create a new profile with the same name, I got this prompt: "The Profile Name Already Exists!" even though it's not listed. This makes me believe it's still saved somewhere, just not listed on the menu.

I'm afraid to start a new game and progress since it may just disappear again. Is there any way I can recover my original profile? I bought the game on Steam and I have no idea whether these profiles are saved on my computer or online.

I would appreciated any insight.

I had set the Amnesia folder to 'hidden' and forgotten....

I'm dumb :-)
