RE: Linux Beta Demo and Feedback

hi,
is it normal that the performance goes down if a enmy appear (as in the last scence in the demo) or is it just becouse its the last event in this demo? (i think it's the last ... don't care whats wolfang is saying)

i have a pretty old machine (duron 1,2GHZ, GeForceTi4200, 384MB SDRAM) but i like to know wheather the full game will be playable if enemies appear Wink

RE: Linux Beta Demo and Feedback

Hi,

the game simply crashes when DISPLAY is unset (or any other initialization error occurs).

Maybe you could add an error message of what went wrong?

philipp@hiroshima ~/PenumbraEp1Demo $ echo $DISPLAY
:0.0
philipp@hiroshima ~/PenumbraEp1Demo $ unset DISPLAY
philipp@hiroshima ~/PenumbraEp1Demo $ ./penumbrademo
./penumbrademo: line 2:  6880 Segmentation fault      LD_LIBRARY_PATH=./lib ./penumbrademo.bin
philipp@hiroshima ~/PenumbraEp1Demo $ LD_LIBRARY_PATH=./lib gdb ./penumbrademo.bin

RE: Linux Beta Demo and Feedback

Hi,

Looks like I'm the only one not experiencing any major problems, I'm running kubuntu feisty fawn beta. The game installed fine and works fine, pretty fast if I select the default graphic options. My only complain is that during the intro movie the spoken text is a bit abruptly stopped after each part. Is that normal ? Also I get sometimes while playing static sound, seems to happen when I enter a new area but I'm not sure....

Great game by the way, and thanks for thinking about linux user.

JoyFM:

Dog always kills you sooner or later Wink If there is no really major slow down (making the game unplayable) then I think you should be fine.

RE: Linux Beta Demo and Feedback

Hi, first i want to say its nice to see a new commercial linux game once in a while, so thanks for that.

I get this error, when I want to run the game on LinuxMint 2.2, which is based upon Ubuntu 6.10 i think.

Quote:./penumbrademo: line 2: 13506 Floating point exceptionLD_LIBRARY_PATH=./lib ./penumbrademo.bin

I looked into the ./penumbrademo script but dont know if I can do anything to make this go away.

Domi2007 Wrote:./penumbrademo.bin: error while loading shared libraries: ./lib/libSDL-1.2.so.0: cannot restore segment prot after reloc: Permission denied

This is due to SeLinux being enabled and in enforcing mode. If you are on FC6, you can clear out all of the libs in the ./lib/ directory except for the libCg and libCgGL so long as you have the rest of the libs installed on your system. (libopenal and libalut are from extras as openal and freealut).

Another solution would be to run
chcon system_u:object_r:textrel_shlib_t libSDL-1.2.so.0 this would change the SE linux context of the SDL to what is required.

I'm going to test to see if I can change that on install.
