Resolution will not change

Hey guys, I just installed Penumbra: Overture and I tried changing the resolution to 1680x1050, the optimal resolution for my monitor.

When I changed it in-game and relaunched the game, there was no change. Then I tried changing the settings.cfg file through the MyDocuments directory and even the SteamApps directory. The resolution STILL did not change.

I tried reinstalling and this time I editted the settings.cfg file before I launched the game for the first time.

Note: I opened the settings.cfg through notepad.

What operating system etc? File isn't write protected is it?
