Music Use Rules?

I have a quick question about music in custom stories,
would it be completely out of the question to use music created by someone else if you gave credit?

Obviously not if you were going to sell the story, but for a free custom story is it still illegal?

In that case, you ask the composer of the music. Only he (or the publisher) can tell you that, since it's different for every artist.

It's like this, if there was a song I wanted to use, I'd use it. I'm making a custom story for non-profit. Now if they were to contact me, and ask me to remove it, I would. But as long as they're not losing any money, I wouldn't see a problem.
