-1 Internets
Booted my lappy today to be greeted with the well known bogus anti-virus window called ms removal.
I suspect it was from an email sent from my parents as they had the same trojan a week or so back.
Anyway it seems to be going about just now so for the best guide about eliminating this hunk of crap that just wasted 3 hours of my life go here:

regards,
Matt

RE: -1 Internets
+1 internet for you, sir. Then again, this is why I should be looking at OSx86. Or just good ol' Ubuntu and get it over with.
If only I wouldn't of erased my old HDD...

Thing is, the message is personalized. It's certainly not automated. If it is a virus, mattwestwick is intentionally linking us to it.

You have to be careful, though, as some automated messages, scams, etc. are done in a personalized manner to sound more convincing/enticing, thus fooling many unsuspecting people.
In this case, don't worry. It's safe.

RE: -1 Internets
I considered this. But any further attempts to provide re-assurance would have made it look bogus.
Plus there were no Nigerian bank accounts involved.
It's just a heads up for what seems a common infection.
Regards,
Matt (genuinely matt, not automatt or fraudomatt)

Hey, do you mind if you help me transfer some money to your bank account?

RE: -1 Internets
I had the displeasure of removing this from a friends PC for them last fall. Three hour nightmare trying to get enough control of the machine to get it to load my USB drive with system tools on it.
Got to brush up on using HiJackThis again though, so I guess it was worth it.

RE: -1 Internets
When you get to that point where you know it's going to take over 2 hours to fix, it's probably more efficient to boot up with Knoppix, copy documents/savegames off the harddrive, and format/reinstall.
