My guess is:

Do steps 1 & 10 & 11.

Right click the model --> Faces. Then select all of the faces of the model. Then do step 10 :>

I think so (the user Sel has made models using max), but I have zero experience of it :>

for some reason there is no ''faces'' tab in the rightclick O.o

this is a really basic model, made from 1 shape, there are no additional addons to it. any chance i could send you it and maybe you could figure out what is wrong with it? ^^

thanks for the help, i really appreaciate it!

Finally! A good tutorial. Thanks a million for posting this, when I start on my next custom story (After Chapter 2) this is going to really help me out. I haven't even bothered to open up a model editor program just due to the fact I would instantly be lost. I'm just happy I can work level editor ;P scripting is more of my thing. Well thanks again!

Hmm, is the pivot point centered at 0,0,0 in Maya? Drop down menu "Mesh" --> Combine || "Mesh" Separate will bring the pivot point of all meshes to 0,0,0.

Other than that the model itself should be assigned a material & texture :>
