For some reason this has only started over the past week or two, so it could very well be a driver issue.

Grunts and brutes alike switch from being normally coloured to being bright shiny white with barely any distinguishing features other than the redness of the grunt's mouth/claws, and tend to remain in this state for 99% of the time. This makes them visible at great distances, as they seem unaffected by the game's lighting/shadow, which obviously sucks.

Any workarounds for this save for downgrading my GPU drivers? I recently installed updated drivers and the problem persisted.

Cheers Smile

EDIT 7th September 2013:

I think this has been solved. If you edit the sanity level in your save file (for instance, if you want to cheat) this problem can occur. Presumably this is because of the way in which looking at monsters affects your sanity and causes visual effects for the player. If the sanity value has been tweaked manually it can cause the enemies to become pure white, as you can see in the screenshots below.

The specifics of this are still a mystery to me, but I have experimented and narrowed it down to the sanity level value in the save file. During the discussion below I stated that I played the game with and without cheating and that the problem occurred regardless, but when I played without cheating I merely edited the values back to their original states; this was obviously not good enough. Editing the value in any way can potentially cause these issues.

And how does that have to do with Penumbra? Reinstall the game...

Are you asking if I have the same problem with Penumbra? I don't believe so, I haven't played it in a few weeks though.

No, he asked what the problem had to do with Penumbra, because you had posted this in the Penumbra Technical Support, and not the Amnesia Technical Support.

I've come to learn to not fear the living, nor the dead... But the monsters that hide in closets.

Correct

Try reinstalling the game

Whoops, I wonder how that happened, I rarely even visit the Penumbra forum! haha

I just tried reinstalling and loaded up a save near an enemy and it seems to have worked.

Very strange problem.

Cheers.

I've been having this problem again for the last few weeks now, and reinstalling the game numerous times doesn't help (including deleting all of my profile and settings files). I even recently reinstalled Windows and bought some new SSDs onto which I installed Amnesia afresh and it hasn't helped. I took a few screenshots of the issue - see attached files.

My details:

GPU: ATI Radeon HD 5850 1GB
RAM: Corsair 4GB XMS2 6400
CPU: Intel Q6600 2.4GHz
O/S: Windows 7 Enterprise x64

I'm using the latest catalyst drivers, but over the past few weeks I've used 3 different versions of the driver and the problem persisted across all of them.

Here's my HPL log:

Cheers dudes.

That's creepy, have you tried this halo fix that is available at the troubleshooting guide? It may solve this too but I don't think so.

I remember something like that a year or so back and Jens said something about these 5 series cards. Maybe he knows more...

I have no clue, some driver/software/setting conflict perhaps. I have a 5750, Win7 and have never experienced this issue.

I remember something about these cards from the old troubleshooting guide originally by Thomas but we removed it because with newer drivers it worked just fine.

Well, as Jens said this is a specific case and it has to do with your operating system settings, state etc...
